Chikni Supari Powder/Chikani Supari Ka Powder

Chikni Supari Powder is a graceful, slender, stem, perennial palm, trunk reaching a height of about 25 m, cultivated in the coastal regions of India (Bengal and Assam), Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and other tropical and subtropical countries an altitude up to 1000 m. Fruits are single seed berries with flesh and fibrous pericarp and a stony seed, 3.8-5 cm long, smooth, orange or scarlet when ripe.

Fruits are ovoid, externally pale, reddish-brown to light yellowish-brown, marked with a net work of paler lines, frequently with adhering portions of silvery brittle endocarp and adhering fibers of mesocorp at base of seed. Seed hard with ruminate endosperm of brownish tissue alternating with whitish tissue, odour, characteristic, taste, astringent.

Chikni Supari Powder is also known as Areca Catechu Powder. Chikani Supari Ka Powder is an Ayurvedic tonic used for improving appetite and reducing fatigue. It improves strength and vigor in the body.

The nut is use to make medicine. Areca nut is chew alone or in the form of quid, a mixture of tobacco, powdered or slice areca nut, and slaked lime wrap in the leaf of “betel” vine (Piper betel).

It is use in the treatment of diarrhea, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, and other intestinal troubles. In veterinary medicine, an extract of Chikni Supari Powder is used for expelling tapeworms in cattle, dogs, and horses; to empty animals bowels; and for treating intestinal colic in horses.
