Babuna Panchang Powder - Matricaria Chamomilla

Babuna Panchang is a member of the Asteraceae family, native to southern and eastern Europe. Today the plant can be found on all continents. It has a branched, erect and smooth stem, which grows to a height of 15–60 cm (6–23.5 in). The long and narrow leaves are bipinnate or tripinnate.

Babuna Panchang contains a large number of therapeutically interesting and active compound classes. The most important are the components of the essential oil and the flavonoid fraction. Apart from them, the following compound classes were detect and characterizes: mucins, coumarone, phenol carboxylic acids (phenyl substitute carboxylic acids), amino acids, phytosterols, choline, and mineral substances (Frank and Schleicher, 2005). The chamomile constituents are best categorized according to their lipophilicity (Schilcher, 1987). The lipophilic fraction includes individual components of the essential oil, coumarins, methoxylated flavones aglyca, phytosterols, and “lipidic and waxy substances.” The hydrophilic fraction consists of flavonoids, mucilage, phenyl carboxylic acids, amino acids, and choline.

In a study, the essential oil of M. chamomilla L. from Morocco was analyzes by capillary gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detector (GC-MS). Twenty-five compounds were identified in the essential oils and the main constituents of the essential oils were chamazulene (25.21%), cis-β-farnesene (12.51%), eucalyptol (9.19%), coumarin (7.72%), galaxolide (6.28%), and camphor (4.3%) (Hajjaj et al., 2013a,b).

Chamomila Dried Plant (Matricaria Recutita), also refers to sometimes as German chamomile, is an herb that it approved by Commission E to treat cough and bronchitis, fevers, cold, inflammation, infection, wounds, and burns. It is believes by some to have sedative and anticonvulsant effects, and a small amount of research supports these effects. As discusses in Chapter 8, it may offer some benefits as an anxiolytic, and consequently some have argued that it may have some hypnotic effects, but many researchers disagree and maintain that Chamomila Dried Plant  is not effective as a sleep aid. Chamomile is usually well tolerate and side effects are rare. Patients with allergies to plants in the daisy family (including ragweed) should avoid chamomile because an allergic reaction may be triggeres. When initiated, treatment with chamomile exerts sedative effects, so monitoring of response is necessary. Chamomile may contribute to blood thinning, so those who take anticoagulant medications should avoid using chamomile. This may include over-the-counter medications, such as aspirin.
